Embedded software engineer
We turn landfills into fully optimized renewable power plants. With full-stack hardware & software built in-house, we cut emissions, generate clean energy and deliver real-world impact.
We usually respond within two weeks
Your role
You own the firmware that runs on our devices in the field. You enjoy working across firmware, electronics and wireless communications, and you take features from concept through deployment. Our devices are battery-powered, sit on landfills in all weather, and have to keep measuring and keep connected for years. You make sure they do.
You work closely with the CTO and the hardware team to build reliable firmware and with the operations team to track down what goes wrong in the field. You see your code run on real sites, and you fix it when reality disagrees.
Responsibilities
Independently design, implement, test and deploy C++ firmware features for our STM32-based devices, with a focus on reliability and maintainability
Own device connectivity over nRF cellular modems, 4G/LTE, MQTT, LoRa and LoRaWAN, including provisioning, power-efficient data transmission and antenna integration
Integrate sensors, analogue interfaces and actuators, including gas sensors, pressure measurements and valve controls
Diagnose PCB-level and field failures using logic analysers, oscilloscopes and multimeters
Investigate intermittent field failures, connectivity recovery and power-management issues on battery-powered devices
Build automated tests, diagnostic logging and CI/CD pipelines for robust firmware releases, using Git
Collaborate with the CTO and algorithm team to translate control strategies into firmware
Work with the operations team to find root causes of failures in challenging industrial environments, internationally
Who you are
You’re a practical, independent embedded engineer who likes it where firmware meets hardware and the real world. You’ve seen multiple products and projects succeed and fail, and you know what separates them.
BSc or BEng in computer engineering, electrical engineering or embedded engineering
3 to 5 years of professional experience developing production-grade embedded firmware in C++, including debugging, optimisation and maintenance of MCU-based systems
Hands-on experience with STM32, including peripherals, I²C, SPI, UART, interrupts and low-power operation
Experience with nRF cellular modems, 4G/LTE, MQTT, LoRa and LoRaWAN, and with troubleshooting connectivity in the field
Experience using Git and automated testing; unit testing, linters and CI/CD pipelines are preferred
Experience with sensors, analogue interfaces and actuators, and with diagnosing PCB-level faults
Comfortable in an agile environment, taking ownership from concept through deployment
You use AI as a development tool for code, debugging, testing, documentation and code reviews, and you review what it produces
Experience with battery-powered, remotely deployed industrial IoT devices is a big plus
Bonus points for experience in PCB design, CAD, manufacturing and testing
Show us the hardest embedded problem you worked on.
Who we are
At Hydryx, we’re turning landfills into climate solutions. Landfills are one of the biggest blind spots in climate tech. They leak methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere for decades. We think that’s fixable.
Founded in 2023, Hydryx builds technology that makes landfill gas systems work like they should. We replace outdated, manual infrastructure with fully automated systems. Our platform combines on-site sensors, real-time monitoring, and an AI-driven control algorithm to capture more gas, reduce emissions, and generate clean power.
The entire stack is built in-house; hardware, software, cloud, and installed directly in the field. No assumptions, no black boxes. Just better control, better outcomes, and a real path to decarbonizing waste.
And honestly, the fact that this sector isn’t “sexy” is exactly why it’s so interesting to us. It’s overlooked, underserved and full of low-hanging climate wins.
We’re based in Amsterdam, scaling fast, and hiring. If you want to work on real-world climate problems, ones you can see, touch, and fix, come build with us.
What we offer
Work that matters. You’ll build systems that capture landfill methane, turn it into energy, and cut one of the world’s biggest climate problems down to size. Real tech, deployed in the real world
Amsterdam as home base. We’re building both a product and a team, and for that you need to be in the room part of the week. How you manage that balance is up to you, but collaboration happens fastest in person.
Upside that’s real. We offer a competitive salary, growth opportunities, and meaningful stock options, because if we win, you should share in the value created
Ownership from day one. The learning curve is steep, the feedback is direct, and we’ll throw as much responsibility at you as you can handle. It’s simple: the more you raise the standard, the more trust and ownership you earn
Good times included. From free daily healthy lunches and Friday beers to team dinners and a ski trip in February, we work hard, but we also make time to celebrate the ride together
We will review all candidates at the end of November, after which the interview process will start.

About Hydryx
Landfills are responsible for 6% of global emissions. Yet we believe that under every landfill lies a powerful opportunity, and that great landfill management is a key part of the circular economy. We started Hydryx to prove that with the right technology, we don’t have to choose between a solid business case and climate action. We can have both.
